How to Take Screenshot
Hello Friends, today I will give you information about how you can take a screenshot of your Windows PC. Taking a screenshot means taking a photo of your screen by itself and not using any other device like a camera or mobile.
The Microsoft Windows operating system offers default and an inbuilt option for taking a screenshot of any window which opens on your computer.
But some third party program also offers some easy alternatives for taking a screenshot. So I am going to tell you all the methods offered either by Windows or by third-party programs. After taking the screenshot you can save the screenshot image in your PC. We will discuss these methods in detail.
How to take a screenshot PC or Laptop?
Taking a screenshot of PC by Print Screen button
- Press the Print Screen button.
- Open Paint Tool.
- Press Ctrl + V and then Ctrl + S.
In the very first method, you can take a screenshot with the help of your keyboard. You can see a button on the right upper side of your screen which is labeled as “Print Screen”. This button is located in between F12 function key and Scroll Lock buttons.
On Laptop keyboards, you will need to press Function or Fn key to execute the Print Screen command. To capture the entire screen, press the Print Screen button. You will see no changes on your screen after you press Print Screen, but the computer has done its work.
Your screenshot will not be saved automatically as a file, instead, it gets copied in the clipboard. In order to save the screenshot, open an image editing tool (Microsoft Paint), paste the screenshot in the image editor, and save the file to any location you want. Your screenshot will be saved to your specified location.

- Open the Snipping tool from Widows explorer.
- Click on the NEW button.
- Select the area using the cursor.
- Press Ctrl + S and give a location to save the screenshot.
- Click the Save button.
The Snip and Sketch tool is an easier method to take a screenshot. On the left lower side of your keyboard, you can see a button labeled with the Windows logo. Press the button a list will pop up from the left lower side of the screen. From this list, click on the Snipping Tool button, which possesses a scissor picture.
After clicking, it will throw a small window of the snipping tool on your screen. On this smallest window of Snipping Tool, click the NEW button to capture a screenshot.
Here your mouse cursor will turn into + sign. Using the cursor, select the screen area which you want to capture.
After selecting the particular area, press control + S to save the captured screenshot. Provide the location on your disk to save it and press the saves button. Your screenshot also gets automatically saved at the clipboard.
Taking Screenshot by +Print Screen button
Press the + button and Print Screen button at the same time.
Open Paint Tool.
Press Ctrl + V and Press Ctrl + S.
The next method for taking pictures of your screen is by pressing the + Print Screen button. Just below functions keys, you can locate the + singed key aligned in the numerical key row. Press the + button and then press the Print Screen button.
The computer will capture the photo of your current screen location. Now if you want to save the file you will need to save it manually. For that open Windows button and from the pop-up list select Paint Tool. The Paint Tool will create a new empty page to save your screenshot.
Now click Control + V to paste the screenshot. The screenshot you have taken will appear here. To save the screenshot, press Ctrl + S button. Give the proper location to save this screenshot and press the save button. Your screenshot will be saved there.
Capturing Screenshot for Windows 8 and Windows 10
Press the Windows key and Print Screen key in one stroke.
Press Windows + E key together.
Below Library heading, click on Pictures icon.
The screenshot is saved automatically here in the Screenshot Folder.
Capturing screenshot in Windows 8 and 10 versions are very easy as compared to Windows 7 version. In Windows 7 users need to manually save the screenshot. But in Windows 8 and 10 the saving processing is automatic.
First to capture the screenshot, press the Windows button and Print Screen button simultaneously. This will take a screenshot of your desktop screen. At the same time, the computer will automatically save this screenshot for you.
To view where your screenshot is being saved, press Windows and E. This command will take you to My Computer. Below the Library sub-heading, click on the Pictures icon.
After entering the Pictures icon, you will find a folder with the name Screenshot. Click on that folder and you will find your screenshot is saved there, automatically.
Screenshot command especially for Windows 10
Press Windows + Shift + S
Select and drag the screen area.
Paste the screenshot in any application by Ctrl + V
Here is a screenshot method which is applicable only for Windows 10 version. Windows 10 users will not get confused with other screenshot commands.
On your keyboard, press Windows + Shift + S buttons simultaneously. Click and drag with the cursor to select the part of your screen which you want to screenshot. As you select the screen area, it will be copied to the clipboard.
You can paste this screenshot on any application with Ctrl + V command.
Capturing Screenshot in Windows 10 using Game Bar
Launch the Xbox app.
Assign any short key.
User-assigned keys + G.
Click on the Camera icon or Win + Alt + Prt Scrn.
Windows 10 incorporates Game DVR functions for recording Gameplay footage and capturing screenshots of Windows PC games. The Game Bar generates a screenshot in PNG format and saves it on the path -> C: UsersYour NameVidoesCaptures.
Launch the Xbox app which is inbuilt with Windows 10. Under Game DVR toggle to “Take a screenshot using Game DVR” and assign shortcut keys on your keyboard you desire to.
When you want to take a screenshot, use your shortcut keys + G and click on “Yes, this is a game” box if prompted. Now press “Camera icon” or Windows + Alt + Print Screen” to take a screenshot.
Important Note: The keyboard shortcut will be applicable only if you have previously checked the “Yes, this is a game”, for specific games. If so, the computer will notify you “Screenshot saved”. The path for opening the screenshot file is Xbox>Game DVR>.
Greenshot App for taking Windows’ Screenshot
A screenshot app is a useful tool for taking a screenshot in windows. You can click on one of its user-configurable keyboard shortcuts or right-click the system tray icon and choose an option for taking a screenshot.
This tool can take a screenshot of the complete desktop, a window, a section, or the last section. After you take a screenshot, Greenshot can either copy it to the clipboard, save it to any location of your, open in Microsoft application, open in an image editor, or can directly plot it to the Imgur image hosting site. It can take a delayed screenshot. Greenshot is a completely free and open-source application.
This for taking a screenshot, I have suggested a few commands. Among these, some are executed by just using a keyboard and shortcut keys.
